As Paul mentioned in the top post, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a condition where cysts form in your kidneys and eventually destroy their ability to function. It’s inherited, meaning that patients have certain combinations of genes from their parents that lead to developing PKD. According to the National Kidney Foundation, more than half a million people in the United States have PKD.
Today, there is no cure for PKD. This means that people like Paul who find that their kidneys are failing due to PKD must find a kidney donor. The search is more difficult because their closest relatives, who by genetic lottery would be most likely to be a donor-to-recipient match, may themselves have the same inherited issue.
If you would consider being the donor that Paul needs, you can start the donor evaluation process through Renewal of Life, in Brooklyn, NY.
